FAQ

Chi domanda non è pazzo

We take pride in offering an Italian-style espresso experience. This encompasses several things. We offer a standard single shot espresso that is 1 oz in volume. Traditionally, Italian-style espresso means the input weight is 7-9 grams of ground coffee, with an output volume of 25-30 ml. This tradition also boasts Robusta and Robusta blends, offering a bolder, smokier taste and adding depth and body to the coffee.

While many roasters now sell coffee in 12 oz bags or smaller, La Prima still sells full 16 oz / one-pound bags of coffee. Aside from being a nice round number, a one-pound bag helps customers understand our price per volume, and more volume means less packaging, which is better for the environment and more affordable to our customers.

La Prima works with several importers to purchase green coffee from all major growing areas - Central America, South America, Africa, and Asia-Pacific.  About half of our coffees are fair trade certified or organic, and we usually have at least one direct trade coffee in our lineup.

Every La Prima coffee is 100% coffee and contains no added flavors or preservatives. The tasting notes included on our bags are purely descriptive and reflect flavors that occur naturally from the cultivation of the coffee bean and the roasting process.

La Prima Espresso Company is a certified organic roaster in accordance with USDA standards, which “require operations to use practices that cycle resources, conserve biodiversity, and preserve ecological balance.” Our certified organic products are traceable from farm to store, and are produced without GMOs or artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives.

In our tests we’ve determined that when stored properly (in a sealed bag at room temperature), whole bean coffee will taste great for up to about four months.  After that it is still perfectly drinkable, but certain qualities like sweetness and body will decline.
